Dear La Joya ISD Family, Due to upcoming inclement weather conditions and in consideration for the safety of our school community, La Joya ISD will have a regular day on Monday, January 15, 2024 and delayed starts on Tuesday, January 16 & Wednesday, January 17, 2024. Parents can drop-off students at the time they usually do. All staff will report at their regular time. Instructional time and bus pickup time for those days will be as follows: Schedule for Tuesday, January 16 & Wednesday, January 17, 2024 Bus Pickup Time Instructional Start Time Elementary: 9:00AM Elementary: 10:00AM Middle School: 9:45AM Middle School: 10:45AM High School: 10:15AM High School: 11:00AM All outdoor Athletic competitions and practices will be canceled for Tuesday, January 16 & Wednesday January 17, 2024. These outdoor activities will resume on Thursday, January 18, 2024. All indoor Athletic Events will proceed as scheduled. Tutoring and ACE afterschool programs will be canceled for those days as well. We will diligently monitor weather conditions over the next 48 hours to determine the appropriate timing for the resumption of normal operations at La Joya ISD. šŸŽ“ Alum Spotlight - La Joya ECHS Alumnus Returns to Roots as District Accountant Rolando Herrera, an alumnus of La Joya Early College High School, has had a journey marked by rapid academic achievements and professional milestones. From an early college student to navigating the world of professional accounting, Rolando Herrera's career has now led him back to La Joya ISD, where it all started. Speaking about his time at La Joya ECHS he recalls, ā€œbecause of their guidance and mentorship, I was able to gain my bachelorā€™s in accounting at 20 and then my masterā€™s degree in Accountancy from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley at 21.ā€ His academic dedication would go on to open doors to prestigious opportunities. ā€œEventually [I was] able to work for PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), one of the leading ā€˜Big 4ā€™ accounting firms in the world right after my masterā€™s degree,ā€ Herrera said. Despite his success, he felt a pull toward the community that had given him so much, and he returned to La Joya ISD as a district accountant. "La Joya Early College High School and everyone working there always saw a light in me that sometimes I didnā€™t see in myself. The determination and dedication that the staff had will forever impact me," Herrera reflects on his educational journey. Herrera's presence in the district sends students a powerful message: their education is the foundation for their future achievements. It's a story of coming full circle, from a student absorbing lessons in the classroom to an accomplished professional imparting inspiration.
